The image of Jesus and the woman at the well is part of one of the most important stories in The Bible, because many people’s stories can be reflected in it.
The Bible tells that Jesus and the woman at the well found each other in Samaria, when the Lord, after preaching, was thirsty and went to the wells to drink. This encounter wasn’t casual, since he already knew he was going to find her there, with spiritual thirst. That’s why he went to see her and asked her water, just to start conversation. The woman was surprised because a Jewish was actually talking to her, since Samaritans and Jewish were not in good relations at the time. But Jesus doesn’t follow the rules of society; he loves everyone without discrimination. That’s why he came on to her as it can be seen in the picture.
But the story of Jesus and the woman at the well shows us, beyond Jesus’ love, how can He read our hearts and know everything about us without us saying it out loud. This is what he did to her, when he told her about her five past husbands and her current one. Then she confessed the truth with regret, and accepted this one in front of her, wasn’t just a man. Jesus had announced it when he answered: “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
Many people don’t know Jesus. He comes to them asking them something, so he could offer them everything he has and wants to give them. That’s exactly what happened to Jesus and the woman at the well. He finished saying: “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
